Player-Safe Session Report
Last session, the party decided to turn their back on Dreg’s fish market to walk into its town hall. This was a wooden building that seemed to have been retroactively put on stilts, with a bell tower on top, a wooden staircase leading up to its entrance, and a weird vibe overall.

Inside they found Berkmaster Maximilian Monocleese hard at work seeming to be busy. He told them a bit about the village, spoke very highly of Lady Shantywood and her chateau, which was located just across the market, on an island in the middle of the River Hameth, and told them that he had a sick wife who shouldn’t be disturbed. In turn, the party convinced him to make his mark on the city’s history by authoring its first chronicle. He also asked the party to find out what was going on in Lankshorn and solve whatever it turned out to be, offering them 50GP each and one night on him at the Mermaid’s Arms inn for the trouble.
Excited to lie to the Berkmaster in a few days about having investigated what was going on in Lankshorn, they headed to the inn. They also planned on recruiting some retainers here to finally tackle Droomen Knoll.
This turned out to be harder than expected though, since the Mermaid’s Arms clearly wasn’t a place for the adventuring type. Everyone here spoke only in stage whispers, and alcohol was forbidden — something that confused Rowan, who has problems with both authority and alcohol, the latter of which he’d been actively trying to kick since Henrick’s death. So you can imagine what being told he wasn’t allowed to drink did to him.
Spending 50GP to buy everyone at the inn a round of relaxing herbal tea didn’t pan out. No one wanted to join them in their quest. 1 Still, Lord Ratbane wanted to have some chaotic fun, and tried to charm Rowan into drinking again. This pissed Rowan off so much that he left the bar and almost destroyed his foot on the stone wall outside, sulking on it afterwards.
After the two made up, everyone went to bed, with the plan of distributing posters across town to maybe still find some recruits the next day. 2
They made a quick detour to investigate a burned-out farmhouse in the north of the village. Here, they found fresh footprints leading to an inconspicuous pile of neatly stacked rubble in a corner. But they had posters to nail to doors, so they made a mental note of it and went on with their search for help.
Ultimately, they ended up at the Shedgery’s Shack inn in the south of the port. Outside, Lord Ratbane tried his best to break the ice with some actively unfriendly sailors. Inside, they were greeted by near-total apathy. At least for now.
One of the defining features of Shedgery’s Shack is a fishing boat that hangs from its ceiling, as well as a wall of barrels, almost creating a fort at the back of the drinking hall to defend the barkeeper against his guests.
The shack turned out to serve exactly two drinks: Pilston’s Heartbreaker, and Barrowblaster. So a beer and a beer. Rowan caved and ordered a beer. He decided he liked it here — way better than at the Mermaid’s Arse, at least. And so the party decided to stay the night.
At the shack, this means sleeping in a giant, windowless hall lined with hundreds of hammocks forming wobbly bunk beds. Realising this, Lord Ratbane opted out, turning into his cat-like Chester form, and sleeping on the boat hung from the ceiling in the main hall. The others chose three hammocks above each other, with Bon taking the top one.
At some point during the night, he felt a hand rummaging in his pants — he was being robbed. He quickly used his dagger to cut the hammock loose from its point of attachment, thus sending himself and his attacker on top of first Rowan and then Edmund.
Now, the three of them lay on the floor, tangled up in the nets of the hammocks with their attacker, when they heard others approaching the scene…
